Belonging is said to be the strongest motivator of human behaviour. In other words, most people fear rejection more than death [1]. I know this to be true. To be cast out of the tribe for any reason can be painful, life-altering and traumatizing. For most of us, journeying back to wholeness is an arduous process, akin to Sisyphus condemned to endlessly push a boulder uphill. Integrating such experiences, goes beyond the simplistic Hollywood notion of a magical “epiphany.” In this particular telling, I’ve deliberately prioritized inner experience to lay bare the path toward healing. The Threads of Generosity
We all yearn for home, that four-letter word encompassing for each of us what it means to belong — to a place, to a group of people, to an idea. Home is a felt sense. The drop of shoulders when we walk through a door. The odour of love in a crinkled shirt. That moment when buried in a new book. Home is where we experience ground in the midst of chaos, experience our deepest sense of self.
