As co-founder of Anima Leadership, I consider myself a seasoned inclusion warrior. Over the course of my life, I’ve had the opportunity to live across three different continents, work with people across sectors and backgrounds and dive deeply into the fields of psychology and politics. Out of all this messy, beautiful living, I’ve come to realize that we could all use more skill in the area of belonging — to better understand what it means, the impact of its absence, and how to create it for ourselves and each other.

When we belong somewhere, when we find home, the extraordinary becomes possible.
All this thinking, living, experimenting and distilling has resulted in my book, Breaking the Ocean: A Memoir of Race, Rebellion and Reconciliation. I’ve spent years pulling the curtain aside on my own life to introduce what I think is a unique perspective on racism, trauma and the revolutionary power of resilience. I hope you see yourself in its pages.

I also wanted you to hear other voices. So, alongside my book, you’ll find the Soundwaves of Belonging podcast, which includes interviews and transcripts of conversations I’ve had with other prominent thinkers, artists, misfits, and intellectuals on what belonging looks like from different perspectives.
Thank you for visiting. Stay as long as you’d like.
